3.8kW Solar Electric Solar System
Innovative Power Systems installed this 3.8kW solar electric system in Edina, MN in 2007 as part of a new construction project. The owner wanted to incorporate as many green elements into the construction as possible. IPS installed (20) 190-watt PV modules for a total system rating or 3.8kW or 3,800 watts. IPS expects the system to produce over 4,700kWh per year on average, or about 50% of the average household usage. Producing 4,700kWh of electricity annually from coal emits about 9,000 pounds of carbon dioxide. Preventing this much carbon dioxide from being released to the atmosphere is equivalent to adding 470 trees to our forests. Over a 30-year span, IPS expects this system will offset 270,000 pounds or 135 tons of carbon dioxide.
